EU The European types coded ENH, DNH and 700xx are not in the Rev. 20 document; the values in these rows are taken from Belden’s earlier European distance chart and are given in metres only. “–” means no value was published for that data rate.
The distances are estimates based on the cable loss values in the SMPTE standards listed; connectors and other connectivity are not included. Because equipment varies, Belden cannot guarantee that these distances will be obtained; ask the equipment manufacturer what distance can be expected with the cable you intend to use.
The serial digital interface standards are designed to operate where the signal loss at half the clock frequency does not exceed the approximate values below. The recommended lengths are calculated from typical attenuation values of the cables listed and these criteria: maximum length = 30 dB loss at half the clock frequency: SMPTE ST 259; 20 dB loss: SMPTE ST 292 and ST 424; 40 dB loss: SMPTE ST 425, ST 2081, ST 2082 and ST 2083*.
The bit error rate (BER) can change very quickly as the calculated distances are approached. BER depends on receiver design and on the actual losses of the coax used. Verify the maximum recommended transmission distance with the manufacturers of the distribution and routing equipment.
* SMPTE ST 2083-1 is under development.
Transmission distances of bundled coax are slightly shorter than those of single coax because of the helix of the coax in the bundle. The superscript numbers refer to the bundled types to which the same values apply:

Source: Belden, “Estimated Transmission Distance at Serial Data Rates”, Rev. 20, 10 Feb 2021 (official document received from Belden). Belden also points out that not all 12 GHz receivers are designed for the maximum loss level, which can shorten distances by up to 50%; SMPTE ST 2082-1 accepts receivers designed for greater or lesser attenuation.
