What is the ATLAS IP and who uses it?
Headends, studios and contribution links are moving quickly to IP. Where the picture comes from the network, the internet or an SDI cable rather than an antenna, the fault is usually packet loss, jitter, a misconfigured multicast group, too little latency margin on an SRT link or an offset in the PTP clock. Seeing these needs an IP and stream analyzer, not a field strength meter.
The ATLAS IP is built for this job. It measures IPTV multicast and unicast streams, SRT and OTT links, 3G-SDI and ASI-TS signals; it opens the transport stream down to the PSI/SI tables and TR 101 290 alarms; and it shows the picture in 4K. Errors in T2-MI, BTS and MPEG-TS streams are monitored in real time on a multi-touch screen made of customizable panels.
If you also need RF measurement, that is antenna, satellite and cable signals and spectrum up to 6 GHz with the same instrument, the ATLAS NG is the right choice.
Typical users:
- Broadcasters’ master control and headend teams — verifying output streams and IP distribution
- IPTV and OTT operators — QoS measurement, packet loss and jitter detection in multicast networks
- Live production and OB van crews — contribution over the internet with SRT and checking SDI lines
- Studios moving to ST 2110 — auditing video and audio flows, PTP sync and redundancy
- System integrators — commissioning hotel, hospital, campus and corporate IPTV systems
- Encoder and streamer manufacturers and their service teams — testing output streams

Top panel: SDI / ASI in and out, SFP+, IPTV Ethernet, HDMI and USB.
ATLAS IP or ATLAS NG?
Both instruments share the same platform, screen and IP analysis engine. The ATLAS IP works only on the IP, SDI and ASI side; the ATLAS NG also measures broadcast signals from the antenna, satellite and cable.

IP and stream analysis
Every layer of the IP side is measured, from the IPTV headend to the subscriber’s outlet and from an internet contribution link to an OTT service.

IPTV multicast / unicast analyzer
More than 20 measurements, VLAN, multi-stream
Takes more than 20 measurements including jitter, packet rate, jitter histogram and inter-packet arrival time. Works on VLAN networks and with several streams at once, and receives T2-MI and BTS streams. Data quality and packet loss are measured at the outlet where the set-top box will be connected.

SRT analyzer
Caller, listener, rendezvous
Receives SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) links used for low-latency delivery over the internet in all three modes. More than 12 metrics including latency, RTT, NACK packets and received TS analysis are monitored in real time to confirm a stable, error-free link.
OTT and protocols such as NDI and DASH
Advanced OTT measurements
The streaming analysis mode also covers OTT services. PROMAX describes the ATLAS platform’s streaming analyzer for SRT, NDI, DASH and other protocols; network capacity and smooth playback are evaluated on site.
SMPTE ST 2110 and PTP (option)
Moving live production to IP needs new analysis tools to keep the service running. With option OP-006-XX the ATLAS IP becomes a portable ST 2110 analyzer; faults are found on site at key points of the network without a fixed monitoring system.

Portable ST 2110 protocol analyzer
Video and audio flows
The ST 2110 network architecture is examined in the field: video and audio flows are verified separately and reception of the PTP clock is checked. Engineers get a portable analysis and monitoring system to troubleshoot key points of the IP network faster.

PTP: the key to perfect sync
Main and secondary clocks, offset
In ST 2110 every device takes its time reference from PTP (Precision Time Protocol). A misconfigured grandmaster or drift in the network misaligns or drops video and audio flows. Main and secondary PTP clocks are monitored and the offset to the master reference is verified.

ST 2022-7 redundant stream monitoring
Seamless protection switching
ST 2022-7 sends the same stream redundantly over separate routes. The switching is monitored in real time with latency graphs and packet counters; a failure on one path shows immediately on the redundancy monitor, confirming that protection really works.

A monitoring platform for All-IP environments
SDI, professional audio, network latency
Beyond IP analysis it unifies monitoring of SDI signals, professional audio and network latency in one instrument. A portable, intuitive platform that simplifies workflows and is ready for the future of All-IP technology.
SDI, ASI and transport stream
IP is growing, but 3G-SDI is still the backbone of thousands of broadcast facilities, and ASI-TS remains common in headends.

3G-SDI analyzer and generator
SD-SDI, HD-SDI, 3G-SDI · 3 Gbps
A built-in SDI test pattern (1080p60) lets you test the system or isolate a fault when no live signal is available. Video and 16 AES3 audio channels are shown at once. With an option, SDI is also analyzed and generated over fiber.

Advanced diagnostics on SDI cabling
Eye diagram, CRC
SDI signal integrity depends heavily on cabling and connection quality. The statistical eye diagram and CRC error detection reveal problems caused by the cable, connector or run length before the picture is lost.

Transport stream analysis from any source
PSI/SI, bitrates, TR 101 290
PSI/SI tables open on screen and the bitrate of every service and content type is shown in real time. TR 101 290 alarms (priorities 1, 2 and 3) catch errors before they affect the broadcast. The source can be IPTV, OTT, ASI, fiber or a TS file recorded in the instrument; TS is recorded at up to 200 Mbps.
Operation and hardware
Everything needed for long field days, remote support and encrypted services is built in.

Remote control over the internet
webControl, SNMP
With webControl the instrument is operated from a web browser as if it were in your hands. A specialist at headquarters supports the crew in the OB van or at a remote site directly on complex IP networks. SNMP connects it to a network management system.

Integrated Common Interface slot
CAM module and smart card
The CAM module slot confirms that encrypted services open correctly from IPTV and ASI sources. With the right CAM module and smart card, reception of pay channels is certified under real conditions.

Customizable multi-touch screen
10.1-inch, panels, multilingual
The screen is made of panels arranged to suit the job; errors in T2-MI, BTS and MPEG-TS streams are monitored in real time. The interface, based on icons and clear text, is available in many languages including English, Spanish, German, French, Italian and Portuguese.
4K UHD H.265 and Dolby AC-4
10-bit colour depth
4K UHD HEVC / H.265 (Main Profile Level 5.1, 8 / 10-bit), H.264 and MPEG-2 video and common audio formats including Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby AC-4 are decoded on the instrument. The picture can also be sent to an external screen via HDMI.
SFP+ and separate Ethernet ports
High-speed networks
The SFP+ port allows analysis of high-speed networks and IP protocols such as ST 2110. Separate Gigabit Ethernet ports are provided for IPTV measurement and remote control, so measurement and management connections can be kept apart.
Long working days in the field
Over 4 hours, carrying cases
With smart power management the battery runs for over 4 hours. A soft carrying bag and a hard transport case protect the instrument in OB vans and field work. 8 GB of internal memory stores measurement logs, screenshots and TS recordings, expandable via USB.

Measurement values: a short guide
These concepts are enough to read IP and SDI measurements.
Jitter and inter-packet arrival time
In IPTV, packets must arrive at regular intervals. Jitter is the variation of that interval; when it exceeds the receiver’s buffer the picture freezes or breaks into blocks. The inter-packet arrival time graph shows momentary congestion in the network.
SRT: RTT and NACK
SRT requests lost packets again. RTT (round-trip time) and the number of NACKs (retransmission requests) show how hard the link is working; if the configured latency is too low for the RTT, losses start to appear.
TR 101 290 priorities
Priority 1 shows errors that stop decoding, such as sync and continuity; priority 2 timestamp and CRC errors; priority 3 inconsistencies in service information tables. A stream with priority 1 errors does not reach the viewer.
PTP and ST 2110
In ST 2110, video, audio and ancillary data travel as separate flows, all aligned to the PTP clock. When the offset from the master grows, audio and video drift apart or the flow cannot be received; PTP status is the first thing to check.
ST 2022-7 redundancy
The same stream is sent over two separate paths and the receiver merges the packets. If one path fails the broadcast is unaffected; but unless the second path is measured, redundancy exists only on paper.
SDI eye diagram
The eye diagram overlays the signal transitions. The wider the eye, the more reliably the receiver reads each bit. A closing eye means a long or poor cable or a faulty connector; CRC errors are the numeric counterpart.
From symptom to fault
| Symptom | Possible cause | What to do with the ATLAS IP |
|---|---|---|
| IPTV channels freeze occasionally | Jitter, network congestion, packet loss | Watch jitter and inter-packet arrival time |
| Some outlets get no channel at all | Multicast / IGMP or VLAN configuration | Test the same stream at different points with the VLAN setting |
| SRT link keeps dropping | Too little latency margin, high RTT | Check RTT and NACK; reset the latency value |
| Audio and video drift in ST 2110 | PTP offset or wrong grandmaster | Check main and secondary PTP clocks and the offset |
| Redundant path does not take over | ST 2022-7 configuration | Compare the packet counters of both paths |
| Occasional picture loss on an SDI line | Cable, connector or long run | Isolate the cable section with the eye diagram and CRC counter |
| A service is missing from the output stream | Error in PSI/SI tables | Inspect the tables and TR 101 290 priority 3 alarms in TS analysis |
