Frequently asked questions about IPTV products
Which components make up an IPTV system for a hotel or campus?
A headend (DVB to IP gateway) that turns satellite services into IP, encoders for local sources (camera, information channel) and set-top boxes or IP decoders at the viewing points. Distribution runs over the local network (LAN).
What is needed for live streaming over the internet?
An IP streamer / encoder that encodes the source is sufficient; it sends the stream to the platform or CDN using SRT, RTMP or HLS. To take satellite services to the internet a transcoder is added to the gateway.
What is the difference between an encoder and a decoder?
An encoder compresses a video signal (HDMI, SDI) into an IP stream; a decoder turns the IP stream back into an HDMI, SDI or CVBS video signal.
