Which PROFINET cable: Type A, B, C or R?
PROFINET cables are divided into types by how they are used. First decide whether the cable stays fixed, moves occasionally or moves continuously; then choose Cat5e or Cat6A by data rate.

Difference between PROFINET Type A, Type B and Type C cable
Type A has solid conductors and is for fixed installation. Type B has stranded conductors and withstands vibration and occasional movement. Type C is designed for continuous motion: 70008PU for cable tracks, 70009PU for torsion.
Cat5e or Cat6A?
Most PROFINET devices run at 100 Mbit/s, for which quad Cat5e cable is sufficient. Choose 4-pair Cat6A for cameras, backbone links or lines that may need 10 Gbit/s later.
PVC, halogen-free and PUR jackets
PVC is for general industrial use. A halogen-free (LSZH) jacket is required where fire safety matters, such as buildings and tunnels. PUR is the most resistant option against oil, abrasion and motion.
Rail and fire-resistant PROFINET cables
The RailTuff series meets EN 45545 and ECE R118 for rolling stock and buses; fire-resistant BA43770FR and BPB52L1F are for lines where communication must continue during a fire.

What is PROFINET cable?
PROFINET is an Ethernet-based communication standard used in industrial automation. PROFINET cable is shielded industrial Ethernet cable designed for this network. Cat5e PROFINET cables have 22 AWG conductors.
What is the difference between PROFINET cable and standard Ethernet cable?
Cat5e PROFINET cable has a quad (2-pair) construction instead of 4 pairs, heavier conductors (22 AWG) and foil plus braid shielding. It is made for the noise, oil and temperatures of industrial environments.
Is PROFINET cable the same as Profibus cable?
No. Profibus is a serial network based on RS-485 and uses a two-conductor cable. PROFINET is Ethernet-based. One cannot replace the other. For Profibus, see our Belden Profibus cable page.
Which PROFINET cable is used on moving machinery?
Type C 70008PU for continuous motion in cable tracks, 70009PU for torsion, and Type R 70010PU for robot arms.
Which jacket should I choose?
PVC for general use, halogen-free (LSZH) where fire safety is required, PUR for machine environments with oil and abrasion.
Do I have to buy a full reel?
No. We supply cut lengths. The part number and the total length are enough.
